Quick answer (verified 2026-10-09): NYC Parks lists 28 dedicated pickleball courts at 11 Queens sites, the most of any borough. Three of those sites (Farm Playground, Roy Wilkins Park, Springfield Park) need an NYC Parks tennis permit in season. The rest are free, first come, first served. For indoor play: CityPickle LIC (4 courts), Gotham Pickleball's two LIC sites (4, and 8 with 2 outdoor), Kotofit LIC (7 shared badminton/pickleball courts), the Active Pickleball & Tennis Center at Queens College, and Commonpoint's bubble in Alley Pond Park.
Queens, in one paragraph
Queens doesn't do one giant pickleball park. It does lots of small ones, spread across the borough. The eastern neighborhoods (Bayside, Little Neck, Fresh Meadows, Queens Village, Springfield Gardens) hold most of the public courts, often two to four at a time. Long Island City has become the borough's indoor capital, with four clubs within walking distance of each other. If you live in Astoria or Jackson Heights, your nearest free courts are probably Dutch Kills or Francis Lewis. Your nearest roof is in LIC.
Data notes. The NYC Parks per-park pages for Alley Athletic Playground and Rockaway Beach didn't load when we checked. Their court counts come from the NYC Parks borough list, and whether they need a tennis permit is unverified. Al Oerter Recreation Center is tagged for pickleball in OpenStreetMap only. NYC Parks' rec center page doesn't list it, so treat it as unverified until you call. APTC and Commonpoint don't publish pickleball court counts.
Tennis permit, explained in 20 seconds
At Farm Playground, Roy Wilkins Park and Springfield Park, NYC Parks marks the pickleball courts "Requires Tennis Permit: Y". The NYC Parks permit page lists $100 for an adult season permit, $20 for seniors (62+), $10 for juniors (under 18) and $15 for a single-play ticket. The tennis season runs from April to the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Note that NYC Parks' page still showed 2025 season dates when we checked. Every other Queens site in the table is marked "N": no permit needed.
Unverified at most sites. NYC Open Data lists Crocheron and Rockaway as unlit

Tips for Queens players
Check the permit column before you go. Showing up to Roy Wilkins without a tennis permit in season is a short day.
Stack your sites. Several eastern Queens parks have only 1–2 courts. If one is full, Crocheron (4) and Archie Spigner (4) are your bigger fallbacks.
LIC is the indoor cluster. CityPickle, both Gotham locations and Kotofit are all in Long Island City, so a full club usually isn't the end of your night.
Wear court shoes indoors. Clubs play on indoor surfaces. Our indoor shoe guide covers the grip question.
